Treating your fuel with additives
In this guide we have provided you with information on additives to apply to your fuel. We stock a wide range of additives to protect fuel from contamination and to treat microbial growth.
How does microbial growth develop?
Microbial growth can be caused by a number of factors. One of the most common reasons for fuel contamination is when water enters the tank.
When water enters the tank it combines with the oil and affects the state of the heating and cooling process inside the tank. Oil tanks often collect water through condensation due to the daily temperature changes, which can cause; water build up inside the tank and microbial growth. If left untreated it will continue to grow, contaminating the oil and heating system. Another way water can enter the tank is through split vents and caps.
For more information:
Anti Bug Protect
Anti Bug Protect is designed to clean the fuel which prevents microbial growth such as bacteria, fungi and yeast.
When to use Anti Bug Protect?
Anti Bug Protect can be applied with each delivery of heating oil. This will keep the oil and tank healthy and protect it against microbial growth.
Key features of Anti Bug Protect
Formulated to protect the fuel against microbial growth
Avoid costly tank repair or replacements
Eliminates plugging of filters and gauges
Protects against tank and pipe corrosion
Cleans within 24 to 36 hours
Anti Bug Kill
Anti Bug Kill is formulated to treat contaminated fuel.
When to use Anti Bug Kill?
Treat your fuel immediately if microbial growth has been detected inside the tank.
Key features of Anti Bug Kill
Takes immediate effect and does not add to sludge or slime build up |
No adverse effect on waste water systems or municipal sewage treatment |
Fully compatible with steels, aluminum and zinc and with polyethylene and polypropylene |
Does not adversely affect fuel combustion or emissions quality |
Protects against tank and pipe corrosion |
Eliminates plugging of filters and gauges |
Clean up rate of 24-36 hours |
Common signs of microbial growth
What to look out for:
Build up of water inside the tank
Formation of sludge blocking filters
Heating system or aga (fired range cooker) malfunction

Anti-wax
Anti-wax is designed to prevent fuel from freezing and waxing up during colder temperatures.
When to use Anti-wax
Apply Anti-wax to your tank before temperatures begin to drop. We recommend keeping up to date with the latest weather news in you area.
Key features of Anti-wax
Protection against cold weather
Fuel remains fluid and will pass through filters
Inhibits formation of wax crystals blocking filters
Common signs of wax formation
What to look out for:
Cracked pipes and vents
Blocked filters
Boiler and aga malfunction
How to prevent wax formation
Apply Anti-wax before temperatures are forecasted to drop
