Reduce Your Home Heating Costs

Heating oil bills can stack up quickly if you don’t keep an eye on your usage, to help you cut costs and conserve fuel we’ve listed some of our best tips.

  • Shop around - Your previous heating oil supplier may not be the cheapest for your next order. Taking the time to shop around and compare prices could save you money in the long run.
  • Buy when demand is lower - Oil prices can increase when demand is greater, try to stock up on oil during quieter ‘off-peak’ times such as the summer months.
  • Use a monitoring system - opting into a monitoring scheme will ensure your tank never runs dry and you’re not at risk of paying extortionate delivery fees for emergency orders.
  • Conduct an energy audit - Check your house for places where insulation could be added or improved.
  • Use a programmable thermostat - Turning off your heating when you’re not at home will help you use less oil and cut down on costs.
  • Change the filter - A dirty, clogged filter will make your heating system work harder and use up more oil. Changing your filter every month to two months will make your heating system run as efficiently as possible.
  • Service the system - Having your heating system regularly serviced by an OFTEC approved engineer will ensure its longevity and make sure its running at optimum performance levels.
