BIRMINGHAM BAKE OFF FOR BREAST CANCER

Lexus Birmingham, part of the Vantage Motor Group, will be holding the Great Pink Bake Off on Friday 18 October to raise money for the charity Breakthrough Breast Cancer; and A.I.D. Fuels Group are proud to have sponsored a cake for the event.

The A.I.D. Fuels Group will be sponsoring a South & City College Student to bake an A.I.D. Fuels themed cake, which will form part of the dealerships bring and buy coffee morning to raise money to help fight breast cancer.

You can help to make a difference by attending the event or by donating at the Great Pink Bake Off website.

The event is organised by centre host Megan Adams, who lost her sister Jill to breast cancer in 1998, the fundraiser will begin with a cake bake off event. This will see members of the public invited to submit their cake creations for judging by an expert panel which will include former Great British Bake Off contestant Natasha Springer and radio personality Ed Doolan MBE.

The bake off will take place at the dealership in Fort Dunlop from 11am to 3pm and there will be a host of events open to the public throughout the day including a bring and buy coffee morning and an afternoon raffle.

The event will also celebrate staff member Niki Meller’s remission from breast cancer after three years of treatment. Sales administrator Niki has worked at the dealership for five years and is due to return to work following surgery in October. She will be attending the event to take part in the judging and to share her experiences of surviving cancer.

Commenting on the event, Megan said:

“We’ve been trying to spread the word to get our customers and local businesses to take part in the bake off and we’d really love to reach our target to raise £1,000 for Breakthrough Breast Cancer. We’re determined to make it a great success and we’re calling on all budding Berrys and Hollywoods to come along and show off their baking skills.

“Cancer is something that affects almost all of us in some way and after losing my sister, Jill to the disease, this event obviously has a special significance for me. I’m also really happy that my colleague Niki will able to come to the event and I’m sure her story of beating cancer will provide hope and inspiration for others who are affected by the disease.”

The finale to the bake off will see a children’s cake decorating morning take place from 10am – 2pm on Saturday 19 October with a range of prizes on offer including expert tuition from local bakers Bake180.

According to the charity, breast cancer is the most common cancer in the UK, with around 50,000 women and around 400 men diagnosed each year. However as a result of research and fundraising campaigns, the diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer has improved significantly and five out of six women diagnosed with the disease now survive for at least five years.
