Green Flag has warned that drivers could be subjected to substantially higher petrol and diesel prices over the bank holiday when travelling around major roads, motorway and isolated destinations. Some retailers will be charging up to 2ppl higher than service stations on average.
The worst affected stations tend to be isolated areas such as Cumbria with up to a 15% difference in fuel prices with isolated stations charging 131.2ppl, whilst other populated areas charge 114.3ppl. Destinations that are close to main motorways including the M1, M25, M6 and M40 are all set to face price hikes for the bank holiday weekend.
Lucy Davies, spokesman at Green Flag, said: "This is the last bank holiday before Christmas, so we want to ensure that everyone is able to enjoy the long weekend to the fullest and not have to shell out for overpriced fuels.
"Nobody wants to be caught out with costs they weren't prepared for. Green Flag urges drivers to avoid costly fuel prices by researching the roads and ensuring they find the cheapest fuel they can."
