#BalanceForBetter - International Women's Day 2019

The first International Women’s Day (IWD) was held in 1911 and supported by over one million people. Today it is celebrated world wide and has gained the support of numerous businesses and organisations.

International Women’s Day is an ongoing campaign to create a more gender-balanced world and take action against inequality, and it celebrates the achievement of women in all areas of life. The theme of 2019’s IWD is #BalanceforBetter, a campaign that will run all year long to raise awareness that balance drives a better working world.

In keeping with International Women’s Day, the Department for Transport has released a new Transport Skills Strategy with the aim of encouraging more women into the industry. The latest figures show that the percentage of women working in the transport industry in the UK currently falls below the EU average of 22%. Organisations such as Women in Transport are still pushing for gender parity in transport roles by running a number of initiatives to raise awareness and help women start a career within the transport industry.

AID Fuel Oils Group is proud to have a balanced workforce and will continue to support campaigns that encourage gender diversity within the fuel and transport industry. As the IWD campaign states “Gender balance is essential for economies and communities to thrive”
